     Grade 10 and 11 Identification Placement Review Committee (I.P.R.C.)meetings will be taking place in May. Special Education Resource  Teachers (S.E.R.T's.) will be 'inviting' parents and students to attend these in the spring. Stay tuned.....
 
     Grade 9 and 12 IPRC meetings will be held in November. Parents will be invited to attend these.
 
      An Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) is tailor-made for each and every student who has been Identified as an Exceptional Student, through an IPRC meeting.

ACADEMIC RESOURCE AND ESL DEPARTMENT

 

 

THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE DEPARTMENT (ARD) PROVIDES SUPPORT SERVICES TO SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS SO THAT THE DIVERSE

LEARNING NEEDS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY ARE MET.  ACADEMIC RESOURCE EMPHASIZES A PERSONALIZED PROGRAM TO ASSIST THESTUDENT IN THE CLASSROOM.  INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS (IEP’s) WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL IDENTIFIED EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS.

 

The support programs offered by the department include:

 

·          Transition from elementary school

·          Transition to post secondary study

·          Transition to the world of work

·          Learning Strategies Courses (GLE 1O, 2O, 3O and GLS 1O)

·          Support to teachers in providing accommodations for learning, assessment and evaluation

·          Support to students in accessing accommodations for learning, assessment and evaluation

·          Support to students with learning difficulties with course work from other departments

·          Support to parents with enquiries regarding identification and accommodations

·          An individualized integrated approach to programming for the exceptional

·          Enhanced student support (IEP’s)

 

 

 

                                                 LEARNING STRATEGIES 1:  GLS1O1//GLE1O1/GLE2O1                                                      

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL (OPEN)

This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.

Prerequisite: For GLS1O1 – None

ADVANCED LEARNING STRATEGIES:  GLE3O1

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS AFTER SECONDARY SCHOOL

This course improves students’ learning and personal management skills, preparing them to make successful transitions to work, training and/ or postsecondary education destinations.  Students will assess their learning abilities and use literacy, numeracy, research skills and personal management techniques to maximize their learning potential. Students will investigate trends and resources to support their postsecondary employment, training, and/ or education choices and develop a plan to help them meet their learning and career goals.

 

Prerequisite: Students registered in GLE courses must be deemed as exceptional by the Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC) and be recommended by the principal.
