Angus Jno. Pierre

Angus is the only athlete this year from Ascension to qualify for the provincial Track and Field meet (OFSAA) held in Sudbury Ontario.  Angus is in his first year as a senior and throughout the season competed and held his own with all the top athletes who are mostly second and third year seniors.
As the 100m and 200m champion in the Junior Division at last year’s South Regional Championships he was expected to do well this year, but not challenge for medals as this was his first year in the higher division.  Every track meet this year saw Angus improving his times and proving that he belonged with this level of competition.  He won a number of races over 100m and 200m and was rarely in the runner-up spot.
At the ROPSSAA Championships this year Angus won a bronze medal for third place in the 100m and placed 7th in the 200m.  The following week he improved his position at the South Regional Championships and achieved a second place finish in the 100m and thus qualified for OFSAA.  He competed in the 100m at OFSAA where he placed 3rd in his semi-finals in a personal best 11.06 seconds and was just edged out of a place in the final by 0.008 seconds. With next year being his second as a senior, great things are expected of Angus as he continues to fly the Ascension flag high.

Day of Pink 2011

The Ascension Community celebrated Day of Pink on April 13. This is an International Event that is designed to promote inclusion and diversity . Students are asked to wear a pink shirt or some other pink  accessory as a reminder that bullying and discrimination are not acceptable.

The event began after a boy wearing a pink shirt to school in Nova Scotia was bullied.  Shortly after, the boys'  peers wore pink shirts to show the bullies that discrimination was not acceptable.

The action of those students soon captured media attention and now to mark the event and to promote the concepts of inclusion,anti-bullying and anti-discrimination Day of Pink is celebrated around the world.

To learn more, visit www.dayofpink.org

Congratulations Ascension on taking a stand against discrimination and bullying !
