Sing like no one is watching!!!! St. Francis of Assisi Choir is once again preparing for a fun and challenging choir competition on November 17th at 10:15 a.m. at Sheridan Mall. This year we have 66 choir members from grades 1 to 8!!! Wow! That's amazing!! Students have been practicing during most morning recesses and some afternoon recesses. They will sing the following songs: So Long Farewell, (The Sound of Music) Splish, Splash (Bobby Darin), Under the Boardwalk (The Drifters) and We Go Together (Grease). Last year, our hard work paid off as we brought home a first place trophy and lots of great memories. We are going to work hard to try and make it to the finals which take place on Saturday November 28th at Sheridan Mall. Mrs. Savoia-Mastroieni and Ms. Camilleri are very excited about this exciting event!!

We will also be singing Our National Anthem on Sunday, December 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Michael's Major hockey game being held at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

Raptors Reading

• The Toronto Raptors Basketball Association organizes a Read to Achieve program to which St.Francis of Assisi Reading Club has joined. Our reading club meets Mondays and Wednesdays at lunch in the library, where students have an opportunity to read simply for enjoyment. Students from Grades 1 - 8 are welcome to join. There are contests available throughout the year for students to enter if they wish to do so.

• This year our Reading Club was invited to join the Raptors for their Literacy Day at the Ontario Science Center. Students had an opportunity to meet players, listen to authors, and explore the science center. In addition, the students in the club also received 2 tickets each to a Raptors game! We had a blast and continue to enjoy getting lost in a good book!

Special Awards - Raptors Community M.V.P. As a participating Read To Achieve teacher, Mrs. Thibault has dedicated herself to making literacy a priority for her students at St Francis of Assissi Catholic Elementary in Mississauga. Her hard work and commitment to providing new ways to get kids excited about reading makes her November's Community MVP. http://www.nba.com/raptors/community/Raptors_Community_MVPs.html

Raptors Reading Time Out Challenge - Students from Grades 2- 6 were busy in March, reading for the Raptors Reading Time Out Challenge. Each student was encouraged to read a total of 7 books throughout the month of March. Prizes were awarded to readers throughout the month, and to the students who read the most within their class.

Student Council

We're up and running! Committee members are a very enthusiastic keen group of students and teachers, who are ready to participate and spread School Spirit at St. Francis of Assisi. Student members take on leadership roles, which provide opportunities to get involved and learn related skills that are transferable later in life. A successful Thanksgiving Food Drive & funfilled Spirit Week have both been major success'.
