St. Augustine School History
 |
St. Augustine Secondary School opened in September 1988 and for three years students and staff were located at a board holding school located on the Sheridan College campus. In September 1991, St. Augustine welcomed students to its new building at 27 Drinkwater Road in southwestern Brampton; the school was blessed on September 26, 1991.
When Cardinal Leger Secondary School was being rebuilt, St. Augustine shared its building and the holding site with Cardinal Leger students and staff. St. Augustine had the morning shift until noon and used the old site in the afternoon. Leger used the old site in the morning and held classes at St. Augustine from
1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The school of 1500 students demonstrates its motto, “Ever Ancient, Ever New,” in both the curriculum and expressions of faith. The members of St. Augustine Business Club, for example, are enthusiastic about experiencing the world of business within a strong Catholic community.
The St. Augustine school community uses St. Jerome Parish church, which is two blocks away, for special events, some classes, and retreats.
St. Augustine Secondary School’s connection to social justice activities is strong. Our Mary’s Children group and The St. Augustine Z-Club are student-based school service organizations that raise funds to support charitable organizations in our community. Mary’s Children also teaches grade 2 students the Rosary to help prepare them for their First Communion. The St. Augustine’s Diversity Team seeks to break racial barriers in the school. Students at St. Augustine are also engaged in social justice activities with our school’s involvement in the Nicaragua project, where a group of our students travel to that country and engage in activities that raise their awareness of the issues that students in that country face that are far different than those faced by our students.
