History

St. Teresa of Avila Separate Elementary School is located in the Meadowvale area of Mississauga. The original compliment of students was housed at St. Elizabeth Seton. St. Teresa of Avila's first principal was Doug Swales who also came from St. Elizabeth Seton. St. Teresa of Avila officially opened on Ground Hog Day 1987. As a result, the original school included a groundhog reading a book. Today's logo is the Thunderbirds, worn proudly by our students.

The original cross atop the building was made of mahogany donated by Art Sheffler, the school trustee at the time.

St. Teresa of Avila School was a family designated school for industrial arts, home economics, and music. Students in the Mississauga North Family of schools were bussed here for these classes.
