St. Benedict

St. Benedict was born in the year 480 in Italy. As a young man, he lived alone in a cave for three years in order to get closer to God. Sometimes, his pet raven even brought food to him in the cave. Many people started to hear about this holy man and wanted to follow his example. Over the years, Benedict opened twelve monasteries. He taught his followers how to pray, read, write and farm for themselves and the poor. Eventually, Benedict had thousands of Benedictine monks spreading God's word throughout Europe.

Benedict died near the altar where he received the Blessed Sacrament, while his monks held up his arms in prayer. In 1966, Pope Paul VI canonized him and named him the Patron Saint of Europe.

~ St. Benedict's feast day is celebrated on July 11th.

St. Benedict is best remembered as a monk who valued prayer, education and sharing with others. Here at St. Benedict, our school slogan is FAITH FAMILY FUTURE. Like St. Benedict, we try to live our Catholic faith by participating in activities to benefit the poor, such as food drives, Share Life fundraisers and Operation Christmas Child. We live our faith by leading morning prayers, having class lead liturgies and masses and having two liturgical choirs. We participate in extra curricular activities to learn and develop new skills and friendships. We have many clubs: athletic, craft, musical, drama, peer mediators and recycling/conservation. Our family is made up of our home, school and community and we participate in a variety of church and community groups.

By participating in all these activities to be the best we can, we hope that the Future of our world will be a better place.
