St. Bernard of Clairvaux Important Updates

Welcome/Bienvenue to

St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Elementary School

“Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, and sought thy intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother,
to thee I come,
before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word
Incarnate! Despise not my petitions, but, in thy mercy,
hear and answer me. Amen.”

This prayer was composed after the writings of St. Bernard, the first to give Mary her title of Notre Dame.

The Catholic Community, Culture, and Caring (CCCC) Parent/Guardian Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Ministry of Education’s focus on Safe and Accepting Schools: Promoting a Positive School Climate requires that all elementary and secondary schools across Ontario implement a student and parent school climate survey every two years. As a Catholic school board, our fundamental understanding of the inherent human dignity of all people, helps us frame this requirement.     All parents and guardians of elementary and secondary students across Dufferin-Peel are invited to complete an anonymous and voluntary Catholic Community, Culture, and Caring School Climate Survey. This online survey has been developed to provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to express feedback regarding their perceptions of safety, inclusion, and communication with their child's school. Information collected from this survey will help inform schools about what is needed to make school a better place for all students and parents in Dufferin-Peel.

To take part in this survey, please visit the Dufferin-Peel website:

or access the Parent/Guardian Survey using the following link at:

or simply scan the QR Code below

Thank you for your support!

Virtue of the Month

"As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.   And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body.

Colossians 3:12-15

God wants us to give generously to others around us.

A kind person.....

  • is gentle and sensitive to others
  • stands by their friends in time of need
  • shares their time and talents
  • says nice things about others from the heart
  • always looks for ways to be helpful

Our Daily Prayer for March

Let us now pray...for the virtue of kindness so that everyone we meet will feel like we are looking out for their good.  AMEN

"Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, in your eyes,
in your smile and in your warm greeting."
~Blessed Teresa of Calcutta~

GIF GIC Home Digital Access Primary - Feb 2017.docx

Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ is a Religious Education program sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and developed in collaboration with Catholic educators from across Canada.
The program is based on the Catholic Elementary Curriculum Policy Document for Religious Education, Grades 1-8, which has been approved by the aforementioned Catholic Bishops and Regional Assemblies of Bishops. It reflects the content of faith expressed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and follows the rationale and methodology of the General Directory for Catechesis.
The resources have been developed to help students and their families learn about and live out their Catholic faith.  Each grade level includes a digital copy of the student text, a message from our Bishops, links to videos, songs, activities, prayers, and bible stories.  There are suggestions for family activities at home, along with stories that can be read together.  Support is also given for sacraments.

Are You Ticked?

School Support Designation Campaign

Dufferin-Peel’s Are You Ticked? School support public awareness campaign has been active and ongoing for six years. This locally developed campaign has been supported by the Ontario Catholic School Trustee Association and the Archdiocese of Toronto and has been adopted by other Catholic boards across the province.

We all know the tremendous value of a Catholic education and it is important that we continue to share with the broader public that Catholic education is alive, well and thriving in Dufferin-Peel and Ontario.

One of the ways we can demonstrate this, is by ensuring that our school support designation is directed to the English Separate (Catholic) school system. Having school support designated as English Separate on provincial records is a clear indication of your support for the Catholic school system, whether you have children in the system or not.

It also allows your children to attend the Catholic school system and allows you to vote for the candidate of your choice running for Catholic school trustee in your area.

Many people are not aware that when they move and change residence or ownership, their school support designation automatically defaults to the public school system. The easiest way to determine if your support has been directed to the English Separate school system is to check your annual Property Assessment Notice that you receive from MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation).

If you live in Peel Region or Dufferin County, we encourage you to check your Direction of School Support, either through your municipality, or through the board’s Admissions Department at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or If you reside outside the Dufferin-Peel jurisdiction, we encourage you to contact your local Catholic school board or municipality to ensure that your Direction of School Support is designated as English Separate.

If your spouse is non-Catholic, a Separate School Lease Agreement is an additional document which allows people, one of whom is non-Catholic, who are jointly responsible for the payment of property taxes, either directly through ownership or indirectly through the payment of rent, to direct school support to the Catholic system. Again, you can contact our Admissions Department for more information or for assistance.
