STUDENT TRANSPORTATION OF PEEL REGION (STOPR)

STOPR is a consortium, formed by agreement between the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board, for the purpose of providing a common administration of transportation services for students residing in the Region of Peel.

 

THE STOPR WEBSITE

The STOPR website provides access to up-to-date information regarding delayed buses as well as bus cancellations due to inclement weather. This website also contains transportation policies, procedures, forms and frequently asked questions. Additionally, there is also a link from this website to hhtp://businfo.stopr.ca which provides information as to school of attendance and eligibility for transportation.   For more information, visit http://stopr.ca.

 

TRANSPORATION ELIGIBILITY

Please use the STOPR website,hhtp://businfo.stopr.ca to get information about your child’s eligibility for transportation.  Transportation is provided for students who reside more than the following distances by road, path or walkway from the school they are eligible to attend:

                        Kindergarten, Grade 1             1.0 km

                        Grades 2-4                              1.6 km

                        Grades 5-8                              2.0 km

COURTESY SEAT

A courtesy seat may be granted if a seat is available on the bus and the bus stop already exists in the current school year.  Courtesy seats will be assigned by takinginto consideration the following conditions:  student age, distance from home to school, date and time request was received and enrolment stability.  All courtesy seat requests must be done in writing to the office by October 1st and they will not be assigned until the first week of October.  All parents requesting a Courtesy Seat will receive a response either indicating that they have been given a Courtesy Seat on the bus or that the bus is full and unfortunately there will not be a seat for their child on the bus. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR STUDENTS

Students must be at the bus stop no later than five minutes before the scheduled arrival time of the bus. They are to always keep a safe distance from the road or the street while waiting for the bus and respect other people’s property and belongings while waiting for the school bus.  Students are to board the bus in a safe and orderly fashion.

Students who are granted the privilege of travelling to and from school by school bus must behave in a safe and appropriate manner while they are aboard the vehicle. Thosewho behave in an unsafe or inappropriate manner may lose this privilege. Students are accountable to the school principal for their behavior while on the school bus and must obey the instructions of the bus driver.

  

PRIMARY PROTOCOL (KINDERGARTEN AND GRADE ONE STUDENTS)

Primary students must wear the required identification tag they are given each day when they leave for school. A parent or a designated caregiver must be at the bus stop to meet their child when the bus arrives. Primary students, who are not met at the bus stop, will be retained on the bus and returned to their school at the conclusion of the bus run or route.  Repeated circumstances of a parent/caregiver not being present to receive their child will be reviewed and may result in removal of transportation privileges for the involved child.

CANCELLATIONS

Bus cancellation information is provided to a significant number of media outlets and is generally communicated by 6 AM.  The STOPR website also provides access to up-to-date information regarding delayed buses as well as bus cancellations due to inclement weather.

BUS CANCELLATIONS/SCHOOL CLOSING DUE TO BAD WEATHER

2010 – 2011 SCHOOL YEAR

 

 

During the winter months inclement weather may cause disruption of bus transportation and regular school operations. A decision to cancel school transportation and/or to close schools is usually made by 6:00 a.m. and will be announced on the following radio stations:

We will be communicating one of four standard messages to the radio stations. The four announcements and their effect on the transportation system are as follows: (Please note that the highlighted text only will be communicated by the radio stations).

 

 

1.    “DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES SERVING

ST. ANDREW, ST. BENEDICT AND ST. PETER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND

R.F. HALL SECONDARY SCHOOL ARE CANCELLED FOR TODAY.”

 

2.   “THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES IN THE TOWN OF CALEDON AND THE COUNTY OF DUFFERIN ARE CANCELLED”. This means that all runs listed under announcement #l PLUS the following are cancelled.

·         All schools in the Town of Caledon and all school runs that begin in the Town of Caledon.

·         Individual schools will be notified if this cancellation affects their school.

 

3.   “THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD BUSES ARE CANCELLED.” This means that:

ALL Transportation services provided by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and The Peel District School Board, including buses, vans and taxis have been cancelled for the entire day.

 

4.   “THE SCHOOLS AND OFFICES OF BOTH THE DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD AND THE PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ARE CLOSED.” This means that:

ALL Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board ad Peel District School Board schools and offices are closed to all students and staff.

 

   Note: For Secondary School students riding Public Transit, cancellation of service will be communicated by the respective transit property over the radio. Please be advised that Public Transit rarely cancels and that the level of service on days with inclement weather is unpredictable.
