“Charity talks. Solidarity listens. Charity assumes it has all the answers. Solidarity learns. Charity can be patronizing. Solidarity is humble. Charity decides what its recipients need. Solidarity asks for input and participation from both sides.”
Tim Jeffries
This year the Nicaragua Social Justice Team made their 4th Annual Mission trip to Nicaragua. A group of 11 students and 4 teachers traveled to El Yaraje, Mosonte from March 13 to March 23, 2010. The group demonstrated true Christian spirit and love through their work in rebuilding a basketball court, fixing up a local community center and providing funds and support for a lunch program in the local school of El Yaraje. The students made important connections with their host families and community of El Yaraje.
The group worked extremely hard and accomplished so much in the short time they were there. They had the opportunity to live with, work with, and learn from the local people. In the process of doing this, they were able to create life lasting memories for the people of Leon and for themselves.
Our faith was strengthened by the friendships we made with our Nicaraguan families, the El Yaraje community and within our school. We would like to thank our school community, local businesses, our feeder schools, Guardian Angels Parish, and of course our families and friends for helping us to build this foundation of faith, hope and love. Together we have become agents of change.
