MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH, 2012 Johnathan Shaw
What began as a marketing assignment in 1991 has now grown to become Too Nubian Entertainment. The assignment was to prepare a plan to market and develop your business for the next 5 years. It was therefore conceivable that given his passion for music and his involvement in the entertainment industry, that this assignment would involve music.
Jonathan has been involved in music for most of his life. His foray into the public spotlight began with the legendary "Turntable Kings of Ontario" (TKO). His voice, his style, his connection with the crowd, and his raw talent on the turntables earned him instant recognition that began his now stellar career in the music business.
Jonathan's career has been as extensive as it has been expansive, from DJ, to the voice of commercials, to radio personality. His radio career began with CHRY as a volunteer where he spent some 13 years with the station. During that time from 1995 - 2001 serving as Radio Programmer and host of the Joyride talk show. In 2001, Jonathan made history along with Milestone Radio (Flow 93.5 FM) - the first Black owned and First Urban radio station in Canada - becoming one of the first on air personalities to be hired by the station. During his tenure, he was the creative manager, known for "Creating Spots with Spice" and hosted the number one show on Sunday evenings The Downbeat.
Jonathan was inducted in the Stylus DJ Hall of Fame in 2008 as a member of TKO Sound Crew. Jonathan remains very active within the community devoting his time and resources to various causes. He has been working with the Children's Aid Society, and Each One Teach One. He is a much sought after youth motivational speaker and one of few voices seeking to re-empower Canada's black youth. Jonathan has also worked for Wave 94.7 as an Sales Executive and is currently employed by G987FM as their Creative Director.
The journey to founder and CEO of an Entertainment Company was simply the natural next step. Today Too Nubian Entertainment serves a diverse and eclectic client base continuing the simple philosophy - Music for every moment.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH, 2012 Ann-Marie Gairy
Ann-Marie is a nurse with the love of Canadian History, which includes African-Canadian history. Connections will be made with historical perspectives to the modern day challenges today’s youth face.
Canadian historical figures will be highlighted to educate, motivate and inspire Campion’s youth. The struggles and triumphs history has recorded will be the corner stone of inspiration and self-reflection for the teen audience.
Actual events ranging from emigration to emancipation will be presented in modern terms that will apply to students that are facing rapidly changing life decisions. Grade 11 students are in the process of trying to find out what they want to do with their lives. Choosing courses to get all the right prerequisites and making sound career decisions becomes an adventure onto itself. Grade 12 students are facing new geographic realities of location and culture with the post-secondary possibilities.
Students need to know that they are not alone in their journey. They will find comfort in the knowledge that there were people in dire situations that went ahead of them and still found success.
