Music – Vocal/Choral, Grade 10, Open                                                       AMV2O

This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.  This course is designed for students who wish to study music through singing, emphasizing the fundamentals of good singing through breathing, voice production, diction and ear training.

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music.  Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyse and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.  This course is designed for the intermediate vocalist.

Prerequisites: AMV20

 

Music – Vocal/Choral, Grade 12, University/College                                 AMV4M

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently.  They will also complete complex creative projects.  This course is designed for the advanced vocalist.

Music – Instrumental – Band, Grade 9, Open                                             AMI1O

This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use.  They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use and students will be expected to participate in extracurricular band activities.

A study of the history of the Renaissance will be included with emphasis on performance and students will be expected to participate in extracurricular band activities.

This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.  This course is designed for the beginning guitar student who will learn how to tune the guitar, read chord charts and melodic notation, be introduced to folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz and classical styles through performance, listening, music theory and the history of the guitar.

This course develops students’ artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of music

and the preparation of music productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in contemporary popular styles. Independently and in groups, they will also plan, market, and produce music productions, making use of appropriate technology, and will evaluate the results.  This course will focus on Advanced Guitar techniques

This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.  The focus of the course is the creation and recording of music using MIDI software.

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music.  Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyse and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.  A strong  focus of the course is on music composition, mixing technique, sound editing and advanced keyboarding skills of music using MIDI software.

This course is designed to enable students to begin to communicate with native speakers of the language of study. Students will use simple language and read age- and language appropriate passages for various purposes. They will explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language under study is spoken, including social customs and the arts, by participating in cultural events and activities involving both print and technological resources.  This is an introductory course that provides students with new language learning experiences that will enable them to communicate in the Italian language.

This course provides students with the language learning experiences that will enable them to communicate in the language of study. Students will continue to develop and apply their speaking skills in a variety of contexts, and will participate in activities that will improve their reading comprehension and writing skills. They will also continue to explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language under study is spoken by taking part in community sponsored events and activities involving both print and technological resources. Although students will continue to expand their vocabulary and repertoire of language structures, the language they will use at this level will still be simple.  This course offers students opportunities to further develop their knowledge of the Italian language.

Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices. This course offers the opportunity to extend your knowledge and develop a better understanding and appreciation for the game of soccer.

Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety. This course offers the opportunity to extend your knowledge and develop a better understanding and appreciation for the game of basketball.

This course offers the opportunity to learn various forms of aerobics, personal fitness and dance.

This course provides senior level males the opportunity to develop and implement a strength training and conditioning program that will lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy living.

This course will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyse the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analysing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on contemporary issues. They will also examine their own learning styles, relate their inquiries and research to real-life situations, and investigate career opportunities in new disciplines.  This course investigates the history of African peoples from ancient times to the present and traces their influence throughout the Diaspora with a special focus on Canada, the Caribbean and the United States.

This course will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyse the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analysing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on contemporary issues. They will also examine their own learning styles, relate their inquiries and research to real-life situations, and investigate career opportunities in new disciplines. While learning relevant skills such as traditional and digital photography, graphic design, advertising, fundraising, publishing, and journalistic approaches, the primary focus of this course is to create a high quality yearbook using an inter-disciplinarian approach.

Students will apply the principles and processes of inquiry and research to effectively use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources; to analyse historical innovations and exemplary research; and to investigate real-life situations and career opportunities in interdisciplinary endeavours. They will also assess their own cognitive and affective strategies, apply general skills in both familiar and new contexts, create innovative products, and communicate new knowledge. Students will independently create, manage, and distribute complex graphic, electronic, or audio visual projects in the areas of digital photography, animation and graphic design to create a high quality yearbook.

This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. These may include creating printed stationery, short videos, computer-generated animations, and graphical information displays. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism.

This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. These may include creating printed stationery, short videos, computer-generated animations, and graphical information displays. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism. Students will focus on graphic design and print media fields, developing skills in illustration, typography, logo design, layout, storyboarding, web page design, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Students will develop knowledge and skills relating to the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of the basic and more complex components of a range of communications systems. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ3M1) or Graphic Design (TGJ3M3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will develop knowledge and skills relating to the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of the basic and more complex components of a range of communications systems. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.  Students will focus on the designing and printing of an advertising layout, involving colour separation, desktop publishing and offset printing and will also design images that will be silk-screened onto T-shirts, and use digital cameras to manipulate images to design and print CD covers.

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ3M1) or Graphic Design (TGJ3M3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

Students will create, manage, and distribute complex electronic, graphic, recorded, or audio-visual projects independently and in project teams. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.  Students will focus on the designing and printing of an advertising layout, involving colour separation, desktop publishing and offset printing while applying skills to produce commercial assignments such as newspaper layouts, flyers, t-shirts and company web pages.
