Core French, Grade 9, Advanced Placement                                                                   FSF1DP                              

This course is designed for students who are displaying a highly developed ability for French as a second language and who enjoy additional challenges in language. The course curriculum will follow the regular Ministry of Education program of study for FSF 1D, with emphasis on the use of language for active communication in various contexts and in four basic skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking).

Requirement: Strong language skills and demonstrated success at the elementary level as well as recommendation of the Grade 8 teacher and/or from the French & International Languages Department.

 

Core French, Grade 10, Advanced Placement                                                                          FSF2DP

This course emphasizes the use of language for active communicative and helps students develop their ability to understand spoken French in various contexts and the ability to express themselves coherently and resourcefully in both written and spoken French. The course curriculum will follow the regular Ministry of Education program of study for FSF 1D, with develops of French vocabulary sufficiently ample for reading newspaper and magazine articles.

Prerequisite: Grade 9 French, Academic or Advanced Placement.

This course focuses on developing the four French-language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will analyse a range of works and produce written assignments in a variety of genres; express ideas and opinion relating to a variety of topics based on class discussion, individual research, and personal interests. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language convention in both spoken and written French will be emphasized throughout the course. This course will familiarize the students with the AP French Language Examination and will prepare them to write the exam by the end of grade 12.

Prerequisite: Grade 10 French, Academic or Advanced Placement.

This course seeks to develop language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) that can be used in various activities and disciplines rather than to cover any specific body of subject matter. Extensive training in the organisation and writing of compositions will also be emphasized. Students develop their ability to ability to express themselves coherently, resourcefully, and with reasonable fluency and accuracy in both written and spoken French.

Students will be expected to write the AP International Exam and are financially responsible for the cost of writing the exam.

Communications Technology, Grade 10, Open, Video Production         TGJ 2O1

This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. These may include creating printed stationery, short videos, computer-generated animations, and graphical information displays. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism.

Prerequisite:  None

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ2O1) or Graphic Design (TGJ2O3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

 

Communications Technology, Grade 10, Open, Graphic Design               TGJ 2O3

This course requires students to complete a range of communications technology projects. These may include creating printed stationery, short videos, computer-generated animations, and graphical information displays. Students will learn to transfer information using electronic, live, and graphic communications methods. The knowledge and skills they will develop will provide a basis for careers in areas such as publishing, advertising, print production, animation, photography, and journalism. Students will focus on graphic design and print media fields, developing skills in illustration, typography, logo design, layout, storyboarding, web page design, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Prerequisite:  None

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ2O1) or Graphic Design (TGJ2O3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

 

Communications Technology, Video Production, University/College Preparation            TGJ 3M1

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will develop knowledge and skills relating to the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of the basic and more complex components of a range of communications systems. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.

Prerequisite: None

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ3M1) or Graphic Design (TGJ3M3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

 

Communications Technology, Graphic Design – University/College  Preparation            TGJ 3M3

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will develop knowledge and skills relating to the assembly, operation, maintenance, and repair of the basic and more complex components of a range of communications systems. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.  Students will focus on the designing and printing of an advertising layout, involving colour separation, desktop publishing and offset printing and will also design images that will be silk-screened onto T-shirts, and use digital cameras to manipulate images to design and print CD covers.

Note: Students may enrol in Video Production (TGJ3M1) or Graphic Design (TGJ3M3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will create, manage, and distribute complex electronic, graphic, recorded, or audio-visual projects independently and in project teams. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.

Note: Students may enrol in either Video Production (TGJ4M1) or Graphic Design (TGJ4M3), but not both. Credits will only be granted for one Communication program.

Prerequisite: Grade 11 Communications Technology, University/College

 

Communications Technology, Graphic Design, University/College Preparation                   TGJ 4M3

This course examines communications systems and design and production processes in the areas of electronic, live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students will create, manage, and distribute complex electronic, graphic, recorded, or audio-visual projects independently and in project teams. Students will also study industry standards and regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.  Students will focus on the designing and printing of an advertising layout, involving colour separation, desktop publishing and offset printing while applying skills to produce commercial assignments such as newspaper layouts, flyers, t-shirts and company web pages.
