Physical Education Department & Athletics

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Physical Education Department is led by Department Head Michael Maiola.  Other phys-ed staff members include Catherine DeLazzer, Robert Tucci, Mary Cutrara, Anita Janicki, Jim Commandant, Patrick McCallion, Sandra DoRego and Carlo Cicconte.  The Phys-ed department offers a variety of courses for all students in each grade level.

Facilities

Gymnasium

The gymnasium is quite large and is sufficient for regular basketball games to occur. It can further be divided into three sections using partitions, in order to allow multiple phys-ed classes to occur at the same time. In addition the gym is equipped with an electronic scoreboard and bleachers so as to accommodate spectators during games.

Outdoor Field
Our outdoor facilities consists of an outdoor field surrounded by a gravel track. The field is used for sports such as football, and soccer, and the track is used for track and field events. To accommodate spectators, there are also outdoor bleachers and an electronic score board.

Weight Room
The weight room is designed for students and staff to enhance their muscular build and fitness. There are classes available for students which concentrate on both the practical and theoretical aspects of weight training and healthy living. The available equipment currently consists of weight machines, free weights, a treadmill, and exercise bikes. The weight room is open during regular school hours and after school to those who undergo a weight training orientation seminar and receive a weight room pass. These passes can be obtained through the weight club for a very affordable price.

Athletics

Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Athletic Program offers a full range of activities for boys and girls. Students who are new to OLMC and attended previous high schools are considered to be “transfer students” and they must complete and return the Transfer Application form in order to participate in athletics at OLMC. These forms are available in the Physical Education Department.
