WHAT’S GOING ON IN CO-OP?
All of our semester II coop students are completing their 7th week at their placements, and are halfway through completing their coop experience. Our students are currently exploring professions ranging from Physiotherapy, Carpentry, HVAC Technician, Chef, Automotive Technician, Teacher, Hairstylist, Caterer, Video Production and Filming, and Computer Repair Technician to name just a few.
Prior to beginning their work placements, students received Emergency First Aid training and they learned about the importance of workplace health and safety. Other topics studied included confidentiality; right to privacy; work ethics; use of information technology; Employment Standards Act; Human Rights Act; labour unions; and methods of dealing with and reporting placement concerns.
While at their work placements, students explore the career of their choice in greater detail. Students are provided with challenging opportunities to apply and extend their knowledge, while they develop and refine employability skills and industry-specific skills. As well, students experience personal growth as they mature and develop a greater sense of the importance of responsibility and commitment in the workplace.
