A behavioral exceptionality is defined as behavioural, social and/or emotional responses that are of such severity in terms of frequency, intensity and/or duration that the pupil’s performance within the school setting is adversely affected. These behaviours may be manifested as one or more of the following:
· Inability to build or maintain interpersonal relationships
· Excessive fears or anxieties
· Tendency to compulsive reaction
· Aggressive, hostile, or violent behaviour
These behavioral responses are not due to another known or identifiable exceptionality, and persist in more than one setting and with more than one individual; even though appropriate modifications in classroom management and changes in the pupil’s academic setting and/or program have been implemented.
It may be necessary to have appropriate modifications and management techniques in place for several months, before changes in behaviour begin to take place. It is also important to run a parallel behaviour management program in the student’s home, when possible.

Hope Place Centres, The House
The House is a residential treatment centre for men dealing with addictive behaviours. The long term goal is to enable the men and their families to develop loving interactions and responsible behaviour within families, relationships, and communities, leading to spiritual growth beyond the need or desire to abuse substances.
The House provides a spiritual program experienced within a therapeutic community. The 28 to 90 day residential program addresses issues related to addictions by encouraging and empowering the men to heal into wholeness. It also establishes a new model of living, which moves them from personal isolation to healthy relationships and purposeful roles in the community
