Remember...We Share the Air

To Members of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board Community

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is committed to the health and wellbeing of the students, support staff, and teachers that make up this community. The “We Share the Air Campaign” is one opportunity we have to demonstrate this value.

There is a growing understanding that the health of some people is adversely affected by exposure to scented products. There are members of our community who may not be able to use facilities such as the Libraries, offices, classrooms, and other workspaces due to the presence of scented personal care products. If they are able to be present, their ability to study or work can be significantly reduced by their symptoms.

The presence of perfumes and other scented products can present

indoor air quality concerns that may affect worker/occupant comfort.

Furthermore, for a very small portion of the general population,

scented products may present a risk of health hazard.
Scent Awareness Campaign – McMaster University

The “We Share the Air Campaign” is one that began at Dalhousie University and has been adopted by other Canadian organizations that include McMaster University and the University of Calgary. This campaign is being launched to increase awareness that some scented products you are using may be making someone else ill. Also, the campaign will provide information about alternative unscented products that are easily available.

"We Share the Air", the Scent Sensitivity Awareness Campaign, is an initiative of the ACCESS Dufferin-Peel Committee with further input from various employee groups and interested stakeholders within the Board. We encourage you to visit www.dpcdsb.org and click on ACCESS Dufferin-Peel for more information about our awareness campaign about how we do, in fact, "share the air".
