Custodial & Office Services – Commitment to Excellence

Dufferin-Peel is one of the largest, fastest growing and diverse school boards in Ontario and one of the largest employers in the Region of Peel. The Custodial & Office Services department provides service to facilities spread over an area of 2,667 square kilometers, 10 million square feet of space to be cleaned and maintained, 88,000 students, 113 Elementary Schools, 21 Secondary Schools.

School Boards today are undergoing rapid change because of politics, the economy, immigration, globalization, the environment, technology, health and safety, education and legislation. To this end, the staff of Custodial and Office Services must learn to adapt at an ever increasing rate. Our mandate  drives us to be aware of the needs of our clients in order to successfully provide good quality service.

Our challenge for the future is to continue delivering quality service to our clients within the realities of budgetary restraints, changing expectations and increased facility use. We must transform “Good Quality Service into Great Quality Service.” The introduction of the Custodial Operating Procedures Manual to the system, our Basic Custodial and Advanced Custodial training courses along with the various Professional Development activity days are intended as tools to empower our custodial, courier, permits, printing and mailroom staff to effect this transformation. These activities are also designed to highlight the level of professionalism associated with the jobs performed by our staff on an every day basis.

Professionalism is not a gift, label or manual sitting on a shelf or in an office. Professionalism is a wage that has to be earned through Education, Effort and Commitment.

As the department adapts and restructures in these changing times, every effort will be made to optimize every available resource in order to provide great quality service and fulfill our mandate.
