Dufferin-Peel to open two new Catholic schools this school year
Fall enrollment projected at approximately 87,000 students
MISSISSAUGA – On September 8, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will open two new secondary schools in Brampton: Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic Secondary School located at 10 Castle Oaks Crossing and St. Roch Catholic Secondary School located at 200 Valleyway Drive. These schools are designed to accommodate up to 1,299 and 1,400 students respectively from Grade 9 to 12.
The opening of these schools brings the number of Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools to 145, including 120 elementary and 25 secondary.
Staff and students at Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic Secondary School will celebrate the opening of their school with a ribbon cutting ceremony, aerial photo and painting of a “We are God’s Hands” mural at 11:30 a.m. on September 8. Staff and students at St. Roch Catholic Secondary School will celebrate with an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting at 8:15 a.m. on September 8.
Construction is underway on the new St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Bolton. Pre-construction demolition work is also underway on the replacement school for St. Anthony Elementary School in Brampton. Both schools are slated to open in September 2010. Students from St. Anthony School will be temporarily accommodated at St. Iassac Jogues School during the 2009-10 school year.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 87,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region. This year marks Dufferin-Peel’s 40th anniversary as a consolidated school board.
