For Immediate Release
Annual United Way Walk/Run/Rollerblade/Stroller event slated for Sunday, September 25
On Sunday, September 25, commencing at 10:00 a.m., the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will launch its 2011 United Way Campaign with one of its most popular United Way fundraisers, the annual Wilf Hartzenberg Memorial 2K-5K Walk/Run/Rollerblade/Stroller event.
Over 300 Dufferin-Peel staff, family members and friends are expected to tackle either a 2K or 5K course that starts outside the board’s Catholic Education Centre at 40 Matheson Boulevard West in Mississauga. Participants will continue west along Matheson before looping back to the finish line via Chedworth Way and Falbourne Street.
Now in its 24th year, the family-oriented event features a morning mass, activities for children, BBQ and draw for prizes. The event is open to all Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board employees, their families, and friends.
The annual event is named in honour of Wilf Hartzenberg, a former teacher and principal with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. An avid runner, Hartzenberg represented Canada at the Masters’ Games. A member of the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, Hartzenberg passed away at the age of 75 in 2000.
Every year the board holds various school and board events and activities to raise funds for community agencies through ShareLife and the United Way. Students and staff also respond to disaster relief efforts, channeling funds through ShareLife.
