Dufferin-Peel Catholic Schools celebrate Catholic Education Week
This year’s theme is “Good News for All”
Schools and parishes across the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will host many special events and activities during the week of May 3-8, as students and staff celebrate Catholic Education Week.
“During this week, Dufferin-Peel students, faculty, staff, administrators and trustees celebrate the unique and distinctive contribution that Catholic schools make to our communities,” said Mario Pascucci, chair of the board. “Catholic Education Week is a welcome opportunity to celebrate the mission of our Catholic schools as they strive to integrate the Gospel values in every aspect of the school’s life and curriculum.”
“On behalf of the board of trustees, I thank our faculty and staff for the tremendous work they do in fostering and promoting the tradition of excellence that has been the hallmark of Dufferin-Peel for 40 years,” added Pascucci.
The Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association (OCSTA) annually coordinates this event to raise awareness about the unique dimension of Catholic education in Ontario. Catholic Education Week begins on a Sunday to highlight the partnership with our parish communities that remains the foundation of Catholic education. The week will kick-off at Dufferin-Peel parishes with a common message about the good news of Catholic education.
“This is a very special week for our staff and students. It is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of faith in our lives, and the role it plays in education,” said John Kostoff, director of education. “We invite all members of our community, especially our parents and guardians, to participate in the events and activities planned for their school communities throughout the week.”
Events will include: concerts, plays, art displays, celebratory Masses, academic competitions, athletic events, fundraisers, open houses, and much more.
This year’s theme is “Good News for All”. A song by the same title, written and recorded by Nancy Bodsworth, a teacher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School, has been designated as this year’s Catholic Education Week anthem. The song and lyrics and other information about Catholic Education Week is available online at www.ocsta.on.ca
