2,684 Grade 12 Dufferin-Peel students score 80 per cent or higher

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce its top scholars for the 2010-11 school year.

Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School in Brampton produced Dufferin-Peel’s top scholar, Claudia Frankfurter. Claudia scored an almost perfect, 99.17 per cent average on her top six Grade 12 courses. She will be starting the Health Sciences program at McMaster University in September.

The leading scholar from Mississauga, Simon Younan, came from St. Francis Xavier Secondary School. Simon averaged 99.00 per cent in his top six Grade 12 courses. Simon Younan is currently attending McMaster University for Engineering. He enrolled in the university’s Headstart program, so that he could take classes this summer, and have them count towards his degree.

The top scholar in Caledon/Dufferin County is Lenka Baloghova, from Robert F. Hall. She scored an average of 96.00 per cent, and will be starting a double degree in Business Administration and Mathematics from Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, in September.

Claudia, Simon and Lenka are among the rising number of Dufferin-Peel scholars who earned an average of 80 per cent or higher. This year 2,684 made this list, compared to 2,283 students who scored 80 per cent or higher on their top six Grade 12 courses last year.

“The outstanding academic achievements by these students should be recognized and applauded,” said John Kostoff, director of education. “Marks like these represent exceptional study habits, many hours of perseverance and dedication. These qualities should serve them well as they continue their academic journey at  their chosen post-secondary institutions and beyond.”

A list of the top scholars from each Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary school with a graduating class is listed below.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest and most diverse school boards in Ontario. It serves approximately 87,000 students in 145 schools located throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region.
