Dufferin-Peel Catholic Schools celebrate Catholic Education Week

This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is “Celebrating the Spirit”

Schools and parishes across the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will host many special events and activities during the week of May 1–6, as students, staff, and the community celebrate Catholic Education Week.

“Catholic Education Week provides an excellent opportunity for students, staff, trustees and the wider community to reflect on the many great contributions Catholic schools make in our communities,” says John Kostoff, director of education. “Our Catholic schools consistently produce high levels of student achievement. Our students are taught the virtues and values of the Catholic faith -- community, responsibility, accountability,

and collaboration -- making them not just good students, but good citizens.”

Catholic Education Week is celebrated throughout Ontario during the week of May 1-6. This year’s theme is Celebrating the Spirit. The five sub-themes, one for each school day during the week, include the Spirit of Hospitality, the Spirit of Understanding, the Spirit of Wisdom, the Spirit of Justice, and the Spirit of Gratitude. Many schools will be hosting events and activities, reflective of these themes, which help staff and students understand more clearly what is meant by Celebrating the Spirit.

“During the week, the Catholic community celebrates the ways in which the Catholic schools’ life and curriculum are enhanced by Gospel values,” says Anna Abbruscato, chair of the board of trustees. “On behalf of the board of trustees, I thank our faculty and staff for the tremendous work they do in continuing the tradition of excellence that Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools have offered to the community for more than 40 years.”

All community members, especially parents, guardians and families, are invited to participate in the events and activities planned for their school communities throughout the week.

Events during the week will include: plays, art displays, celebratory Masses, fundraisers, motivational speakers, and much more. Here is a list of Catholic Education Week events and activities at Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools. This list will be updated throughout the week.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 86,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region.
