Dufferin-Peel community mourns death of former chair, John Doran

It is with deep regret and sadness that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board learned of the death of former Brampton Catholic school trustee and chair, John Doran. Mr. Doran passed away March 11 at the age of 80.

John Doran was a strong advocate for Catholic education who served as a trustee in Dufferin-Peel representing Brampton West from 1982-1997. He served one year (1994-95) as board chair.

“I had the honour of serving with John during my early days as a trustee,” said Mario Pascucci, current board chair. “He was passionate, opinionated and always stood up for Dufferin-Peel and Catholic education.”

“John represented his community during a period of tremendous growth for the board,” said John B. Kostoff, director of education. “We remember John and his family in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

Flags at Dufferin-Peel schools and facilities are being flown at half staff in memory of John Doran.

Mr. Doran is survived by his wife Jean, their eight children, and their respective families. Visitation will be at Wards Funeral Home (52 Main St. South, Brampton) on March 19 from 6-9 p.m. and March 20 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Funeral Mass will be held on March 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 66A Main St. South, Brampton.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest and most diverse school boards in Ontario.
