The late Ed King, the school’s first principal suggested the school be named Father Michael Goetz, after his good friend and prominent local clergy member. Born in 1920, Father Michael Goetz was instrumental in establishing guidance departments at Dufferin-Peel schools in the 1970s.
During its first school year in 1986, Father Michael Goetz was located at a campus in Etobicoke, until Christmas of that year. The school was then temporarily moved to Hollymount Drive, in Mississauga, at a site near where St. Hilary elementary school now stands, while the construction of the current building took place. The new school building, located at 330 Central Parkway West in Mississauga, officially opened its doors for the 1990-91 school year.
Father Michael Goetz Catholic Secondary School is proud of its tradition of excellence in Catholic education and has a current enrolment of 1826 students. It is a member of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, which is one of the largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario.
