Graduating students prepare for the working world
Sixth annual Mission Employable conference and employment expo
MISSISSAUGA – On May 7, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board will host Mission Employable 2009, a one-day conference and employment expo aimed specifically at Grade 12 students entering the world of work after graduation. The sixth annual conference will host 1,200 students from both boards.
Mission Employable 2009 helps graduating students explore employment opportunities in various sectors, improve and enhance their employability skills, provides them much-needed employment advice and community resources to support them during their job search.
“Mission Employable is another critical link in the Student Success initiative where the aim is to reach every student. This conference gives students important information as they transition to the world of work after they graduate,” said David Coules, principal of Student Success and Secondary Program at DPCDSB. “Mission Employable provides students with opportunities to engage in learning and conversation with employers from a variety of sectors designed to assist them with their workplace destination.”
This year’s conference will consist of a keynote speaker, Ryan Porter from “Make your own Lunch”, employment expo and numerous seminar presentations. Students will have many opportunities to meet employers, learn tips of the trade and discuss employment opportunities.
Mission Employable 2009 will take place at the Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton at 2638 Steeles Avenue East on Thursday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information and a schedule of events, visit w3.dpcdsb.org/MissionEmp.
