Dufferin-Peel to open three new Catholic elementary schools this school year
Fall enrollment projected to exceed 89,000 students
MISSISSAUGA – During the 2007-2008 school year, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will open three new elementary schools in Brampton. The opening of these schools brings the number of Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools to 144, including 121 elementary and 23 secondary.
On September 4, the board will officially open St. Bonaventure Catholic Elementary School, located at 35 McCrimmon Drive and Father Francis McSpiritt Catholic Elementary School, located at 55 Lexington Road in Brampton. These schools are designed to accommodate up to 500 students from JK to Grade 8.
Staff and students at St. Bonaventure will celebrate the opening of their school with a ribbon cutting ceremony and liturgy at 8:45 a.m. on September 4. Staff and students at Father Francis McSpiritt will celebrate with a ribbon cutting and flag raising ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on September 4.
St. Aidan Catholic Elementary School, located at 34 Buick Boulevard in Brampton, is currently under construction and will be ready for occupancy in January 2008. The school is designed to accommodate up to 474 students from JK to Grade 8. Students will be temporarily accommodated at St. Joachim Elementary School until the new school is completed.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 89,000 students in 144 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region.
