Dufferin-Peel to open three new Catholic schools this school year

MISSISSAUGA – On September 7, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will open the first Catholic secondary school in Bolton - St. Michael Catholic Secondary School located at 9130 Columbia Way. The school will accommodate 609 Grade 9 and 10 students this school year. Staff and students will celebrate the grand opening of their school with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:00 a.m.

The board will also open the new St. Anthony School located at 950 North Park Drive in Brampton. The school was torn down in 2009 and a replacement school was built on the original site. The school serves 413 students from JK to Grade 8. Staff and students will celebrate the opening of their new school building with a ribbon cutting ceremony and liturgy at 8:30 a.m.

The opening of these schools brings the number of Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools to 145, including 119 elementary and 26 secondary.

Construction is underway on the new Lester B. Pearson Catholic School in Brampton. The new school, which is being built adjacent to the existing school, is slated to open in January 2011.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 87,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville.
