St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School to celebrate official opening and blessing

Archbishop Thomas Collins will preside over the ceremony

MISSISSAUGA - On May 30, staff and students of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga will celebrate their official opening and school blessing. Archbishop Thomas Collins will preside over the ceremony. The theme of the blessing will be the school motto – “Courage to Believe”.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School, located at 3801 Thomas Street in Mississauga, opened on February 2, 2007. The school was formed in September 2004. Since its formation, the school had been operating from the board’s Streetsville Campus on Mississauga Road, and prior to that, from St. Marcellinus Secondary School on Courtneypark Drive. Currently, there are 602 students enrolled in Grades 9-11. In September 2007, the student body will extend to Grade 12.

A school blessing is a milestone event in the life of a new Catholic school, and normally takes place within one year of the opening of the school. Blessings are highly ceremonial occasions with a strong community focus, and are attended by students, parents, clergy, school staff, board officials, school trustees and other elected officials.
