Dufferin-Peel breaks ground at new secondary school site in Bolton
On June 11, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will host a groundbreaking ceremony and blessing at the site of the new St. Michael Catholic Secondary School on Columbia Way in Bolton. The school, which is scheduled to open in September 2010, will service students from five feeder elementary schools: Holy Family, Pope John Paul II, St. John the Baptist, St. Nicholas and St. Patrick. The 168,756 sq. ft. building will accommodate up to 1,300 students and will cost $24,810,000.
The school was named after Saint Michael the Archangel. St. Michael is the protector of the Roman Catholic Church. His name means: "He who is like unto God".
Frank Scarcelli, the current principal of Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School has been appointed the principal of St. Michael Catholic Secondary School.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the school site located at 9130 Columbia Way. Father Leger from Holy Family Parish will bless the site and many board representatives and town/regional dignitaries, including Trustee Frank Di Cosola and Town of Caledon Mayor Marolyn Morrison, will be on hand to help break ground at the new school site.
