Dufferin-Peel students Speak Up!
Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools celebrate success from Student Voice Program
Students at 35 Dufferin-Peel schools are getting more engaged in their learning and school community with the help of the Student Voice Program. Students at 16 elementary schools and 19 secondary schools recently found out that the Ministry of Education would provide funding to support their local project proposals.
The 35 Dufferin-Peel schools will receive a total of $78,594 in funding for 73 student-initiated projects. Individual project funding ranges from $200 to $1,500. Sample projects include Putting Christ in Christmas at Mississauga’s All Saints School to a Snack and Study Program at Brampton’s Notre Dame Secondary School to Pink for a Bully Free Place at Bolton’s Holy Family School to a Student Diversity Committee at Robert F. Hall Secondary School in Caledon East. (See attached for a complete list of projects.)
"It’s great to see the diverse range of student-initiated projects submitted through the Student Voice program," said John Kostoff, Director of Education. "Involvement in these projects authentically affirms the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's commitment to the importance of promoting student empowerment and demonstrates that students are willing to take on leadership roles that, in a positive way, strengthen the student voice in their school communities."
Across Ontario, the Student Voice Program is helping students and student councils speak up and get more engaged in their learning. More than 850 schools across the province are participating in this year’s Student Voice program. Thousands of students in Grades 7 to 12 across the province will benefit from about 1,200 successful Speak Up projects. For more information about Student Voice, visit
