Four Dufferin-Peel student plays named ‘Outstanding Productions’ in Sears Ontario Drama Festival
Plays from four Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools among 12 upcoming performances at Central Regional Showcase.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is proud to announce that student productions from four of its secondary schools have been asked to give an encore presentation, after the plays were designated as Outstanding Productions, by the Sears Ontario Drama Festival.

The Sears Festival Central Regional Showcase will take place April 13 – April 16, at the Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga. Holy Name of Mary, in Brampton, and St. Aloysius Gonzaga, St. Joseph and St. Marcellinus in Mississauga, will be among the twelve schools competing in Ontario’s Central District competition, which includes all Catholic, public and private schools in Peel and York Regions, as well as Catholic schools in Dufferin County. Two productions will be selected to move on to the provincial showcase being held in Toronto this May.

“We are extremely proud of the talent in Dufferin-Peel,” says John Kostoff, Director of Education. “Our board has a tradition of excellence in the arts and theatre production. We congratulate our students who write, direct and act in the productions, the stage and technical crews, as well as the teachers, who dedicate their time and talent to developing these skills in our youth, and wish them the best of luck at the showcase.”

Tickets for the showcase are $16/adult, $12/student per night. Group rates are also available. The Meadowvale Theatre is located at 6315 Montevideo Road in Mississauga. With three performances nightly, starting at 7:00 p.m., the full schedule for the Central Regional Showcase is also available on the board website at www.dpcdsb.org.

The Sears Ontario Drama Festival is the oldest and largest high school drama festival in the world, and marks its 65th anniversary this year. Approximately 350 schools from across Ontario compete in the festival each year.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 86,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region.
