Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board announces top Ontario Scholars
Mississauga senior leads the way with a 98.0 per cent average
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce its top Ontario Scholars. Leading the way is Heather Andrighetti from Loyola Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga. Heather scored an impressive 98.00 per cent average on her top six Grade 12 courses. The leading scholar from a Brampton school is Sandeep Dhillon from St. Augustine Secondary School with an average of 96.67 per cent. Daniel Di Matteo from Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School was the top Caledon/Dufferin County scholar with an 95.71 per cent average. Averages were calculated based on the students’ top six Grade 12 courses.
Heather Andrighetti has accepted an entrance scholarship to the University of Western Ontario, where she is enrolled in the Biological and Medical Sciences program. Heather also received the Governor General’s Academic Medal for the highest average at her school, an Award of Merit and a Book Award from the University of Toronto.
Sandeep Dhillon has accepted an entrance scholarship to the University of Toronto, where he will study Life Sciences. Sandeep also received the Governor General’s Academic Medal and a Science and Biology Award.
Daniel Di Matteo, who has enrolled in the Engineering Science program at the University of Toronto, received the Governor General’s Academic Medal, Math and Science awards, as well as an entrance scholarship from the university.
“These students are to be recognized for their exceptional academic achievements,” said Michael Bator, director of education. “Marks like these represent many hours of perseverance and dedication. These qualities should serve them well as they continue their academic endeavours through the post-secondary level and beyond.”
“On behalf of the board, I want to say how proud we are of these exceptional students,” said chair, Bruno Iannicca. “Their achievements are examples of the many great things that take place in our schools. We wish them, and all our students, the very best in their future endeavours.”
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 89,000 students in 141 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region.
