For Immediate Release
Dufferin-Peel’s 21st Annual United Way Walk/Run/Rollerblade event slated for Sunday, September 28
On Sunday, September 28, commencing at 10:00 a.m., the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will launch its 2008 United Way Campaign with one of its most popular United Way fundraisers, the annual Wilf Hartzenberg Memorial 2K-5K Walk/Run/Rollerblade event. Over 200 staff, family members and friends are expected to tackle either a 2K or 5K course that starts outside the board’s Catholic Education Centre at 40 Matheson Boulevard West in Mississauga. Participants will continue west along Matheson before looping back to the finish line via Chedworth Way and Falbourne Street.
The annual event is named in honour of Wilf Hartzenberg, a former teacher and principal with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. An avid runner, Hartzenberg completed the Boston Marathon and represented Canada at the Masters’ Games. A member of the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, Hartzenberg passed away at the age of 75 in 2000.
The family-oriented event features a pre-event mass, activities for children and a BBQ. The event is open to all Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board employees, their families, and friends. Last year’s event raised over $5,000 for the United Way
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 88,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville.
