Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools celebrate World Teachers’ Day
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will mark United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Teachers’ Day with a message to the system recognizing and thanking the board’s 6,700 teachers, and those who support them in the classroom, for their contribution to Catholic education. World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5.
“All are encouraged to thank teachers for their commitment to Catholic education in Dufferin-Peel and for the outstanding work they do with students each and every day,” said chair of the board of trustees, Mario Pascucci. “Our teachers are the heart of their school communities. We are proud of the hard work, dedication and commitment of all our teachers and know that they provide the best so our students can be the best.”
UNESCO’s theme for World Teachers’ Day this year is Build the Future: invest in teachers now. This theme puts a spotlight on the need for sustained investment to develop a well-trained and motivated teaching force.
“It is because of their teaching skills and commitment to Catholic education, that thousands of children are able to receive the holistic Catholic education that enables them to develop into solid citizens,” said John Kostoff, director of education. “We also recognize and salute the contributions of the broad range of staff which support teachers’ classroom activities. Education is a team concept and we are proud of all our players.”
During morning announcements, students at each school will be encouraged to thank their teachers and express their appreciation for the important role they play in the lives of our youth.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 87,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region. This year marks Dufferin-Peel’s 40th anniversary as a consolidated school board.
