On Wednesday, February 3, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s Special Education and Support Services Department will host a Kindergarten and Full-Day Early Learning Program Entry Planning Information Night.

Registration dates for Kindergarten and Full-Day Early Learning Program at Dufferin-Peel Catholic Schools

Junior and Senior Kindergarten and Full-Day Early Learning Program registration for the 2010-11 school year, for children not already registered, will be held at Dufferin-Peel Catholic elementary schools in Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Bolton) on February 8 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and February 10, 11, 12 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Board and Regisford family resolve Application to Human Rights Tribunal
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Regisford family have resolved an outstanding Application to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario to the satisfaction of both parties. The Regisfords are encouraged by the board’s commitment to diversity and equity, and look forward to the ongoing equity initiatives to be introduced in September 2010.

Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools celebrate World Teachers’ Day

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will mark United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Teachers’ Day with a message to the system recognizing and thanking the board’s 6,700 teachers, and those who support them in the classroom, for their contribution to Catholic education. World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5.

On Sunday, October 4, commencing at 10:00 a.m., the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will launch its 2009 United Way Campaign with one of its most popular United Way fundraisers, the annual Wilf Hartzenberg Memorial 2K-5K Walk/Run/Rollerblade event.

EQAO Results: Growth in mathematics an achievement for Dufferin-Peel students

Results from the spring 2009 administration of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) Primary Division (Grades 1 – 3) and Junior Division (Grades 4 – 6) assessments of reading, writing and mathematics, and the Grade 9 assessment of mathematics, indicate that Dufferin-Peel students have maintained or improved their achievement on most of the assessments, compared to last year.

Dufferin-Peel opens Parenting and Family Literacy Centres at four elementary schools

On September 21, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will open Parenting and Family Literacy Centres in four elementary schools. These centres are located at Canadian Martyrs School and St. Teresa of Avila School in Mississauga, Holy Cross School in Malton and St. Monica School in Brampton.

On September 8, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will open two new secondary schools in Brampton: Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic Secondary School located at 10 Castle Oaks Crossing and St. Roch Catholic Secondary School located at 200 Valleyway Drive.

Continued Literacy Gains for Students and Schools in Dufferin-Peel

Results from the April 2009 administration of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) indicate continued improvement, with a 2 percent increase in the number of Dufferin-Peel students who passed the test from the previous administration in March 2008.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that Amir Kordab, a Grade 8 student from St. Francis of Assisi School in Mississauga and Natalie Green, a Grade 10 student from St. Edmund Campion Secondary School in Brampton have been chosen to participate on the Minister of Education’s 2009-10 Student Advisory Council.

Independent Facilitator Says Board's Pupil Accommodation Process Valid
Margaret Wilson, the independent facilitator appointed by the Ministry of Education to conduct an administrative review of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s pupil accommodation review process that led to a board decision to close and consolidate schools in two Peel communities has released reports upholding the board’s process in both cases. On April 19, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s anti-gang film, Mouse, captured the title of Best Canadian Short Film at the 9th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival in Toronto.

Dufferin-Peel trustees screen Mouse for Mississauga City Council

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board chair Mario Pascucci led a delegation that included vice chair Anna Abbruscato and trustees Sharon Hobin and Thomas Thomas to Mississauga City Council chambers on April 8, where they screened a presentation of the acclaimed board-produced anti-gang film, Mouse, and presented each council member with a copy.

On April 16, the provincial government announced the recipients of the Premier’s Awards of Teaching Excellence. Manuel (Manny) Cordiero, a Social Science teacher at St. Edmund Campion Secondary School was selected for a New Teacher of the Year Award.
