JK/SK Parent/Guardian Survey
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN FRENCH IMMERISON IN DUFFERIN-PEEL?
Early French Immersion is a program in which up to 90% of the instruction is given in the French language, starting in Grade 1. The amount of French instruction is about 70% in Grades 2 and 3, and roughly 50% in Grades 4 through 8. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board currently offers early French Immersion at four sites: St Margaret of Scotland School and St Gertrude School in Mississauga, and St Joachim School and Our Lady of Providence School in Brampton.
As a program of choice, French Immersion is offered without transportation to French Immersion schools being provided by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. With limited funding for transportation provided by the Ministry of Education, the board cannot provide transportation to any new optional programs, such as French Immersion. Without transportation provided by the board, parents and guardians are responsible for transporting their children to the program. This practice has been in place at all current French Immersion sites in Dufferin-Peel.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board would like to find out if parents/guardians of children in Junior and Senior Kindergarten are interested in accessing French Immersion at existing and/or possible additional sites when their children start Grade 1. This information can help the board to decide if, when and where any new French Immersion centres could be opened. In order to capture this important information, the board is asking parents/guardians of children in Junior and Senior Kindergarten to complete an on-line interest survey. To access the survey, click the link below and complete the questions on or before Monday, February 1, 2010. Please note that there is no guarantee of expansion of the early French Immersion program at this time and that the information collected through the survey is for planning purposes only.
