Cooperative Education


Cooperative Education and Experiential Learning

Cooperative education and work experience are programs that integrate clssroom theory with practical experience in the workplace.  It consists of a classroom component and a workplace component and may be planned as a single or mulitple credit program.

Work experience is a component of a credit course that provides students with a work placement of one or four weeks.

  • Cooperative education consists of a classroom component and a workplace component and may be planned as a single or multiple credit program.

  • The programs are based on a partnership between the school, business/industry, and involves the participation of students, teachers, parents, employers and placement supervisors.

  • Students experience the practical aspects of the job, the challenges and demands of employement, and the expectations of employers.

  • Students earn credits towards a graduation diploma.


Students apply to take Cooperative Education during course selection.Students are selected to the program through an interview process conducted by the cooperative education teacher in consultation with subject teachers, guidance counsellors and administrators.
