Contact your guidance counsellor for instructions.
May I apply to register in more than one online course during the summer?
Summer school students can only be enrolled in one online course at a time.
Do Dufferin-Peel summer online courses count towards my diploma?
Yes. Courses offered through the Learning Management System are developed and mediated by qualified Ontario teachers.
Is there a fee to enroll in an online course?
No. Dufferin-Peel students are not responsible for paying a fee to enroll in a Dufferin-Peel summer online course.
How will my final mark be communicated to me?
Summer school students may pick up their report cards at the end of their course. Your online teacher will inform you of the date and location. Otherwise, the process for report distribution will follow the Continuing Education format. The official report card marks will be sent directly to the home school. Report cards will be mailed to the student's home of they are not currently enrolled in a day school. Click here to learn more.
Am I expected to attend a school throughout my summer session?
No. Students taking summer online courses through Dufferin-Peel are expected to physically attend school twice: (1) at the orientation session and (2) during their proctored final exam. All course work is done remotely through a networked computer. Click here to find out the time and location for the orientation session.
When do the courses begin and end?
Every course begins with an in-person orientation session that is mandatory for all students enrolled in an eLearning course. This one hour evening session usually occurs prior to the beginning of the summer program. Next, the semester begins with a five hour online orientation module. This should be completed on the first day of their summer course. Once completed, students will be provided access to their online credit course. Online summer school courses follow the same calendar as regular summer school courses.
I have an IEP. How do I get this to my online summer school teacher to receive the support I require?
Students will meet their online teacher at the orientation session held just prior to the beginning of the summer school program. This may be the only time that the students will meet their online teacher. It is at this orientation session that students are to present their IEP to their teacher. Please note that the summer school teacher will not have access to all the amenities that may be required to support a student with an IEP. For example, an online teacher and student will not have access to the academic resource department and all the assistive supports that are available during the regular day school program. You may wish to consult with your guidance counsellor or other supports within your home school prior to registering for an online course.
I do not have a networked computer at home. Does that mean I cannot take an online course?
No. Some students make arrangements to work from their local library if a networked computer is unavailable in their home. Please note that summer school students will not be scheduled into a specific school and as a result, must make their own arrangements to access a networked computer.
How much time is required for an online course?
The summer online course expectations are based on the same requirements as regular summer school programs. Students registered in summer online courses can expect to spend the same amount of time as those in regular summer school courses.
Who are my supports?
Your online teacher is your main support and may be emailed through your course system if you have any questions about your course. If you are having technical difficulty there will be a tech-help line available to you as well. Lastly, some students post their questions in the classroom forum to seek assistance from their classmates.
