Chess Team

Congratulations to the Christ the King Chess Team who played in the Mississauga South Family of School Chess tournament at St. Mark’s school on March 2, 2012.

After the round robin, our Primary team finished in 3rd place and our Junior team finished in 2nd place. After a nail biting semi-final match, our Primary team made it to the championship game, where they tied with St. Mark!  After a 5 minute blitz game between one of St. Mark’s players and our own Lucas T., Christ the King came away with 2nd place,  silver medals, a finalist banner and a chance to represent our school and our family of schools at the Board Chess Championships in May.  Congratulations Primary Chess Team!

The Junior chess team played a solid quarter-final match which put them into the semi-final match.  After winning 4 of their 5 games, they were already in the championship game and guaranteed at least a silver medal.  They faced a strong St. Mark’s team in the championship game and the teams were tied 2 games each,  The fifth game was a nail-biter as our own Josiah N. was calm and cool, and took the 5th game by having time left on his clock.  So, congratulations go to the Junior Chess Team who are once again the Mississauga South Junior chess champions, winning gold medals, a championship  banner and the opportunity to represent Mississauga South in the Board chess championships in May.  Congratulations Junior Chess Team!
