He also died at St. Ignace.
Anthony Daniel worked in Huronia and by encouraging the Christian converts to live their faith he allowed some of them time to escape during an attack. He was martyred at Mount St. Louis at the age of 48.
Charles Garnier was a person of faith who drew many converts to the faith. He died at the Mission of Etharita at the age of 44.
Noel Chabanel had a strong desire to come to the Canadian Missions but since he was unable to learn the native language he did not feel useful. He was martyred on the Nottawasaga, twenty-five miles from St. Marie.
Isaac Jogues helped to build St. Marie. He was captured by the Iroquois and made a slave. He escaped to France and then returned the same year, only to be martyred at Auriesville, N.Y. at age 39.
Rene Goupli studied medicine. He was captured with Isaac Jogues while on his way to St. Marie. At the age of thirty-five, he was martyred at Auriesville, N.Y. Goupli was the first of the eight Martyrs to receive the palm of Martydom.
