Computer Studies at d'Youville

The Computer Studies department offers courses designed to help students understand the basic computer science concepts. Students will learn the stages of software development, implement various control structures, data structures and algorithms and determine the effeciency of algorithms. Students will develop an understanding of the impact computers have on society and explore postsecodary education and careers paths in computer studies.

Course Outlines

The computer science curriculum is changing for next semester.  The curriculum will now offer an open Grade 10 course (ICS20) and two streams to prepare students for College (ICS3C and ICS4C) and University (ICS3U and ICS4U). 

If you took ICS3M (U/C) this year, can choose to take either ICS4C or ICS4U for next year.

Announcements

Waterloo Computer Contest - This year's Waterloo Canadian Computer Contest will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.  If you are interested in participating in the contest, please see Mr. Iannotta to register.   You can view old contests here.

Trip to McMaster - This year d'Youville will participate in the one day LEAP (Learning Enrichment Advancement Program) workshop at McMaster University.  30 students will be permitted to attend the workshop which will include Hands-On activities, a pizza lunch and a campus tour.  If you either ICS3M or ICS4M and are planning to study computer science or engineering, this trip is for you.  Please see Mr. Iannotta if you are interested. 

 

Computer Gaming Club

Come out and join the d'Youville Computer Science club. This year we will design PC and XBOX 360 software games using Microsoft Visual C# and the XNA framework. In the second semester, we will participate in the ECOO computer contest.
