Principal's Message
Welcome to the St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School Community. We are part of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. We work in close partnership with Father Pat O’Dea, Father James Tobin and Father Steven Dickson of the St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish community. Our school is one of many in East Brampton under the experienced leadership of Supervisory Officer Paul McMorrow.
We aim to build on the amazing accomplishments of staff and students last year. Some of the highlights include a 6% increase in our OSSLT scores as well as a 5% increase in our Grade 9 EQAO Academic Math Assessments. We introduced a new Specialist High Skills Major focusing on Careers in Sport. d’Youville also entered into a partnership with Humber College and we can now offer our students a Dual Credit Program. Senior students can choose to simultaneously complete high school diploma requirements and first year college credits in a classroom on Humber College campus. We have also started some new courses including Native Studies, African American Literature, Hip Hop and Outdoor Education. d’Youville also had six sports teams qualify to compete at the OFSSAA provincial championships.
We are looking forward to all the activities and experiences created by our Chaplaincy Team lead by our Chaplain Mr. Whelan. They have announced “Walking in the Light of Christ” as our theme for this school year. Religious education courses, liturgies, retreats, daily prayer, presentations and local and international social justice outreach initiatives will all align with this theme.
Our dedicated teaching and support staff serve as authentic Catholic witnesses for our students providing direction, support and guidance. Staff at d’Youville will continue to collaborate in many community partnerships so we can offer a differentiated curriculum and a variety of co-curricular programs to ensure we connect with each unique type of learner in our widely diverse population. As you browse our website you will see there are so many ways in which students can be successful in our school community. We believe that student success and wellbeing is greatly improved when they become interested and engaged in school outside the classroom.
St. Marguerite d’Youville will continue with our SMART goals to increase our graduation and credit accumulation rates, improve overall Literacy and Numeracy and further improve on staff and students’ sense of belonging, inclusion, connectedness and safety.
I look forward to another successful year ahead at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Secondary School and as always I invite parents to be as involved as possible in their child’s education. Student success is greatly increased with the full involvement and support of parents. One way to get involved is through our Catholic School Council which meets the third Monday of every month at 6:30pm.
Have a great year!
Mr. K. Greco
