ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC AWARDS

The Awards Program of St. Edmund Campion honours students of our school who best exemplify the school motto: Named, Called, Chosen. Through their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence, these individuals will be recognized for their achievements during three separate occasions: Awards Night, the Athletic Banquet, and Graduation. The criterion for awards that may be presented in any year at St. Edmund Campion is organized into five sections:

  1. Subject Awards
  2. School Letter Awards (Junior & Senior)
  3. Special Recognition Awards
  4. Honour Roll Awards
  5. Athletic Awards

There are a variety of ways to recognize excellence and all formal efforts will be organized through the St. Edmund Campion Awards Committee. Awards will be presented during the Awards Ceremony in the fall. Athletic Awards will be presented at the Athletic Banquet in the spring. Graduating students will receive all graduation awards during their Graduation Ceremony.

A.   SUBJECT AWARDS

Criterion for Subject Awards: These awards are for Academic Excellence. Each award will be based solely on the highest mark, a minimum of 65%, attained in each subject, grade and level. If two or more students' marks are tied, each student will be recognized. Marks must be accumulated during the academic school year at St. Edmund Campion. Students who are repeating a course do not qualify. Subject Awards are presented annually.

B.   SCHOOL LETTER AWARDS (Junior & Senior)

The Junior and Senior School Letter Awards are given to students for recognition of academic achievement and participation in athletic and/or co-curricular activities while in attendance at St. Edmund Campion. To qualify for the Junior Letter Award, a student must accumulate 50 points in total during years 1 and 2 at St. Edmund Campion. To qualify for the Senior Letter Award, a student must accumulate 100 points in total during years 1 through 4 at St. Edmund Campion.

There are 3 divisions from which points are accumulated: Academic, Athletic, Co-curricular.

Application Procedure for School Letter Awards

In May, students wishing to apply for a School Letter will complete and submit a School Letter Application form. On the application, the students state which co-curricular and/or athletic activities they have participated in during each year at St. Edmund Campion. The Awards Committee then reviews this application along with club/team lists of participants submitted by the club leaders and coaches each year. From set criteria, points are then awarded for each athletic and co-curricular activity in which the student participated. Points are also awarded from set criteria for academic averages. The awards are announced at a formal Awards Ceremony.
