Goetz Congratulates Ron Cunningham!

Ron Cunningham and CACD have partnered with Goetz for many years by providing volunteer opportunities for many of our students. You may have seen them in the front foyer talking to our students about the projects they are committed to. Their focus is on supporting at risk youths.                                     This year, Ron was awarded the 2017 BBPA Harry Jerome Community Service Award for the work and programs that he has put into place for youths. Because so many of our students have volunteered within these programs he took four of our students to the Awards Dinner with him.             What an amazing opportunity for these students as the Prime Minister and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau attended the event.

The four students are Longan Nam, Tsinat Semagn, Sarath Thomas and Malak Al-Hadidi.
Below, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau along with his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.
Are you graduating this year?

Marking the 100th Anniversary of the

Battle for Vimy Ridge

Students at Father Michael Goetz Secondary School have used their creative talents to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the Battle for Vimy Ridge.

Brothers Anthony and Matthew Patricio and fellow classmate Gregory Tomchyshyn have created an acrylic painting commemorating this anniversary.

The focal point of the painting is a key piece from the Vimy Memorial in France.  The Memorial is designed around the landscape, as a testament to the sacrifice that occurred in that locale. The symbolic female figure is known as “Canada Bereft” or “Mother Canada”.  Head bowed in sorrow, she provides a powerful representation of Canada, a nation grieving her dead.

The piece will be on display at the annual Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association (OCSOA) AGM in April, 2017.  After this event takes place, the artwork will be permanently displayed at the C.E.C.

Mississauga Sports Summit

On Saturday March 4th nine Fr. Michael Goetz student athletes attended the Mississauga Sports Summit which took place at The Novotel Toronto Mississauga Centre.  The students were involved in a number of workshops, including Sports Injury Prevention and Fundamental Movement Skills. All workshops were engaging and informative both for the students and all attending coaches.  The highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by four time Olympian and World Champion rower Silken Laumann; her message of staying focused on your goal , believing in yourself and being resilient during difficult times was very powerful and one that resonated with all those who attended the conference.  The day was a tremendous learning experience for the Goetz student athletes and one that I believe will have a lasting impact.

Below are two pictures of the Goetz students, one with Silken Laumann and one with former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion.

Advanced Placement Programming
English Literature and Language
Fr. Michael Goetz CSS

Father Michael Goetz is pleased to announce that
it now offers Advanced Placement programming in English Literature and Language.
Advanced Placement is a multinational organization offering accreditation to advanced studies grade 12 courses
that are equivalent to a first-year university course.
Once a student enrolls in an AP (Advanced Placement) course,
the course code on the student's transcript will reflect the AP designation.

In May, students write a separate AP examination that is marked
by qualified AP staff independent of the teacher administering the course.
If the student is successful in this examination,
most universities will recognize this course
as equivalent to one university credit upon the student's admission
to that post-secondary institution.

For further information,
see the AP website at

We are proud to introduce that we have been approved by the Ministry of Education to offer a new SHSM at Father Michael Goetz Secondary School
