MATHEMATICS FOR GRADES 7, 8, 9 and 10 STUDENTS

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Ministry of Education and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board are committed to increasing student success in mathematics and as a result the board has been invited to participate in a Homework Help Pilot Expansion Project this year. The new Homework Help Initiative for Grade 7-10 math students officially launched on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Every student in Grades 7 to 10 in the board is eligible to register and use the free online tutoring service. Students across the board will be given information on how to login either by their classroom teacher or through presentations from the board’s e-Learning Contact, Kevin Williams.
Below are some key points about the website and Homework Help service:
· The site is a secure website that requires student registration and a login process for subsequent uses.
· Tutor are Ontario Certified Teachers from one of the 15 participating boards with specialization in math.
· The chat sessions are available Sunday to Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
· Sessions are monitored by a tutor monitor and lead tutor.
· Student users and tutors remain anonymous and are only identified by usernames chosen by themselves. (Personal names are required for registration only to facilitate username and password recovery by the Independent Learning Centre. This information is not disclosed at any time.)
· All chat session content is visible to all users within the room. (No private discussions and students can only interact with the tutors, not with other students.)
· Other math support resources are available to each registered student 24/7 within the site.
