Co-curricular Awards Programme

 

Each student is challenged to personally participate in and be committed to a particular school activity.  The Co-curricular Awards Programme offers the incentive for each student to become an active member in the Fr. Michael Goetz community.  In so doing, the programme provides each student with community recognition of an individual merit, talent, or accomplishment.  It thus offers motivation for each student to establish goals and pursue excellence in accordance with individual ability.

 

At the annual Athletic Awards Night held in June, and at the Academic Awards Night held in October, students are recognized for their contributions in the various programs. At these ceremonies, we present awards to the Most Valuable Participant in Performing Artist, Athletes of the Year, Fr. Michael Goetz S. S. Spirit Award, as well as those receiving their School Letter, and various awards in high academic achievement.

 

The following is a list of only some of the activities, clubs and sports teams available at Fr. Michael Goetz S. S. Some of these activities may not run in certain school years.

 

Student Council, Amnesty International, Computer Clubs, Math League, Goetz Radio Station, Gator’s Unlimited, Campus Ministry Team

Basketball, Curling, Track & Field, Baseball, Golf, Alpine Skiing, Curling, Soccer, Hockey, Football, DECA, SAINTS, Stage and Concert Band, Choir

 

                Eligibility for Co or Extra-curricular Activities

 

All students who represent Fr. Michael Goetz S. S. are expected to maintain an academic standard. Participation in any extra-curricular activity is a privilege. A student who does not fulfil their obligations to his/her academic program will automatically be placed under review.

 

Reasons for being placed under review:

o         A deliberate failure to attend class.

o         If at any time a student is failing or has failed 2 or more courses.

o         The administrator will undertake the review.  The result of the review which will involve the student, the course teachers and the advisor/coach, may include: 

§          removal of the student from the activity;

§          suspension of the student from the activity until academics improve;

§          placing the student on notice that progress will be monitored and the student may continue with the activity as long as the course teacher reports steady improvement. 

o         Students can also be suspended from missing a particular class that may be adversely effected by an activity.  However, teachers can not unilaterally make decisions not to excuse a student to attend a co or extra-curricular activity on the day of the activity.  This must be done ahead of time in conjunction with an administrator.
