Fr. Michael Goetz Catholic Secondary School

Student Expectations

Student Rights and Responsibilities

The staff at Fr. Michael Goetz Secondary School is dedicated to assisting students in achieving success at school by facilitating solutions to problems and by protecting their right to learn. It is the expectation of the Board and the school that students will respond positively and avail themselves of their opportunities.

Within this context, Fr. Michael Goetz S. S., therefore, acknowledges the following rights and responsibilities for its students:

Rights

Ø       To be respected in both person and conscience as a son or

Ø       daughter of God.

Ø       To learn in a safe, orderly and stimulating Catholic environment.

Ø       To have reasonable access to the facilities and equipment of the school.

Ø       To participate in appropriate programs offered by the school community.

Ø       To be conscientiously instructed by staff.

Responsibilities

Ø       To be respectful towards all members of our school community.

Ø       To comply with all particular school expectations and regulations respecting student behaviour.

Ø       To contribute positively to the Christian climate of the school.

Ø       To use language that is appropriate to their dignity as Christians.

Ø       To adhere faithfully to the School Dress Code/Uniform Policy.

Ø       To respect the property of the school at all times:  building, grounds, equipment, materials etc.

Ø       To attend all scheduled classes and scheduled activities on time and with the materials required for full participation.

Ø       To participate fully in the religious life of the school, including the celebration of Liturgy, Religious Education courses and all related activities.

Ø       To develop personal skills and talents to serve God, and thereby his/her neighbour.

Ø       To give respect, obedience and cooperation to all adults in positions of responsibility in the school.

Cafetorium

Each student is expected to follow the Fr. Michael Goetz Code of Student Behaviour and Discipline in addition to the normal cafeteria procedures and expectations. All food and drink is to be consumed in the cafetorium – not in foyer, hallway, or stairwells. Please help the environment by using the recycling bins when disposing refuse/garbage.

Inclement Weather Policy

As we are on a public transit route, our school is unlikely to close.  The closing of school due to adverse weather conditions is generally announced on all major radio stations.  A cancellation of buses does not mean the school is closed. Students who arrive to school will be expected to remain the full day.
