ROPSSAA GOLF CHAMPIONS AGAIN
The 2008 edition of the Gonzaga Golf team managed to win yet another Peel Region golf championship. This is our 3rd championship in the last 4 years.
The qualifying tournaments were held at Glen Eagle on September 30 and October 1. Gonzaga managed to finish in the top 5 qualifiying them for the ROPSSAA finals held at Hidden Lake Old Course on October 7th. It was there that Andy Montalbano and Tyler Lynch posted scores of 75 to propel Gonzaga to the title. In fact both finished tied for second, one shot behind first place in the individual category. Retrogression was used as a tiebreaker making Andy Montalbano the silver medalist and Tyler Lynch the bronze medalist.
Those 2 scores along with Patrick Enright’s 88 was enough to send Gonzaga to the OFSAA Golf Championships held at Greenhills in London on October 14-15. There, the boys competed against golfers from across the province. Although we couldn’t match our results from the ROPSSAA championship, the boys left with a great experience of competing in the provincial championships.
Congratulations to the team members: Andy Montalbano, Tomas Bancic, Tyler Lynch, Patrick Enright, Andrew Hercus Girls team: Brittany Luccitti
