Mission Statement
Green Scene strives to reduce Gonzaga’s environmental impact through student led initiatives. We are guided by Catholic Values, and driven by the urgency of the global crisis. Our hope is that we can make a tangible impact, educate others, and create a sustainable green culture in our school.
Committee Prayer
Dear Lord, come to the aid of those who work for justice for the planet and all its diversity, who struggle to protect our earth from those who would forge it’s beauty into power. Grant that our children and our children’s children may freely enjoy the fullness of your creation. We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord, Amen.
April 23-27: Earth Week at Gonzaga
During’ Earth Week’, the Community of St. Aloysius Gonzaga will be hosting a variety of activities to raise awareness and reduce Gonzaga’s environmental impact. Spear-headed by Gonzaga’s very own ‘Green Scene’, the hope is to make a tangible impact, educate others and create a sustainable green culture at Gonzaga. During this week Gonzaga will become a ‘bottle free’ zone with the launch of our new water bottle filling stations. Other highlights of the week include presentations: ‘Eating Organic- Eating Healthy!’, ‘Green Earth Organics’, and a fabulous presentation by the Alternative Fuels Team from the University of Waterloo: ‘Reducing Carbon Emissions’. The week also includes a number of organic bake sales, an anti-idling campaign, a number of ‘lights-out’ blitzes to reduce consumption, and a stewardship and solidarity initiative with small scale farmers in Northern Ontario.
