Through AP Exams, students have the opportunity to earn credits or advanced standing
at most of the nation's colleges and universities. The AP English Literature and Composition
course is designed to engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative
literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students can deepen their understanding
of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers.
The course will include intensive study of representative works from various genres and periods,
concentrating on works of recognized literary merit.
Prerequisites:
A minimum 85% final average in ENG 3U1 and a completed Teacher Recommendation form
(available in the English Department).

This course is designed to help students strengthen essential reading and writing skills, providing them with the extra literacy support they need in order to graduate. Students will read informational, graphic, and literary texts, with a focus on locating information, identifying main ideas and supporting details, building vocabulary, and consolidating skills in the application of key comprehension strategies. The course will also help students develop core learning strategies.
